Claire North's Slow Gods has been named a finalist for the Locus Awards 2026 in the Science Fiction Novel category. For a full list of nominees, please see here.

Slow Gods is a very special book, an epic space opera, a story of what it means to be human and it's wonderful to see it resonating with readers. As Molly Templeton puts it in her wonderful essay on Reactor, "I feel like I just read the world in a novel, and I can’t get over it. I keep thinking of something Maw says near the end: 'I don’t know how to feel so huge and so loud inside, and so small and quiet before the dark.'"

Her agent Meg Davis is thrilled and comments: "This amazing book is not just crammed with ideas and wisdom, but has a huge heart. An exceptional book by an exceptional writer."
