It’s a very bittersweet moment for us as we mark the publication of Anne’s last book, Death Times Seven. Anne left a full outline and half of a first draft when she died, and the book has been skilfully and lovingly finished by her friend and editor, Victoria Zackheim. We hope that Anne’s legacy of many ethics-driven novels will make a lasting mark on her millions of readers."
And we are very happy to see it's positive reception, as the novel received a starred review in the Library Journal!
"Cementing her place in a long line of legendary British crime novelists such as Sayers, Christie, and Conan Doyle, prolific bestseller Perry (author of the Thomas and Charlotte Pitt books) puts her usual skillful historical spin on the genre in this compelling yarn, begun before she died in 2023 and later seamlessly finished by her friend and fellow author Zackheim (The Bone Weaver). The seventh installment in Perry’s Daniel Pitt series (following The Fourth Enemy) is set in pre–World War I England and features barrister Pitt, son of Thomas and Charlotte, and his brilliant pathologist wife Miriam. Readers follow Daniel as he’s thrown into two separate high-stakes murder cases: one, an ongoing sensational London murder trial; the other, the puzzling murder and assault of his law partner’s parents in rural Ipswich. The tension between the two cases drives the story as Daniel is torn between the murders, the locations, and doubts about his abilities.
VERDICT Even after more than 100 books, Perry’s storytelling skills were sharp until the end. The strong storyline, intricate plotting, incisive exploration of social issues, and Perry’s trademark active prose make this one of her best. A highly recommended addition to all historical detective fiction collections."
Thank you, James Marshall and Library Journal.
The novel has also been positively reviewed in Kirkus and Book Reporter, and we have received some amazing blurbs for Death Times Seven.
“I love mysteries, and this is a fascinating one—Anne Perry and Victoria Zackheim dish out the suspense, the insights, the details of the murders, the feelings and thoughts of the characters, and the setting bit by bit. The more you read, the more you want to know, and you can’t stop. Death Times Seven is irresistible!”—Jane Smiley, author of Lidie
“A towering achievement from a towering talent, Death Times Seven treats us to all of the hallmarks of Anne Perry’s fiction: nonstop plotting, rich psychological portraits of every character (good and bad), and her stunningly distinctive literary voice, unlike any other in the world of literature. . . . “Completely enthralling—I consumed it with the verve of a starving woman. Our young lawyer, Daniel Pitt, does not disappoint as he struggles to exonerate the innocent, but it is the brilliant Miriam, blazing new trails in a man’s world, who left me cheering and wanting more. . . . A brilliant and wholly satisfying page-turner.”—Connie May Fowler, author of Before Women Had Wings
“Perry’s storytelling skills were sharp until the end. The strong storyline, intricate plotting, incisive exploration of social issues, and [her] trademark active prose make this one of her best. . . . Highly recommended.”—Library Journal, starred review
